Step into the Viking Age

This isn’t your normal school work shop.

Children step into an immersive Viking world surrounded by a Viking encampment authentic artefacts and tools of the Viking raiders.

The day will be filled with rich story telling from the sagas and all hands-on experiences to really bring the Viking age to life.

From the moment they enter pupils are transported into the age of longships, raids and exploration. They wont just learn about the Vikings… they experience them!

Viking KS2 Programme

Children begin their day by stepping into the Viking encampment for an introduction to Viking life who they where, where they came from and how they have influenced our history both locally and globally.

Artefacts are handled and explored, then children will take part in some Viking sports.

As the day progresses the children will take part in Viking battle formation handle shields swords, spears and armour.

We will learn about Viking trade, mint our own coins, meet the gods and heroes of the Viking age through interactive story telling, learn to read and carve the runes.

Our day will end with a bigger project of making and weaving our own real wool for clothing.

Unlike many workshops that rely on basic props and presentations, where children are sat down and listen to some one reel off facts this experience fully immerses pupils in the Viking world and keeps them active through authentic materials, historically accurate clothing, and hands-on activities designed to create lasting memories and enhance memory retention.

How long does a session last?

Sessions are designed to be either a Full day with one class (up to 35 children) or two half day sessions with two classes

Do you travel to our school?

Yes, we cover schools across Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales, Staffordshire Lancashire and greater Manchester

What do we need to provide?

Very little! A school field or hall and early access to school grounds on the day of the visit for set up
